With the Newcastle, Maitland, and Port Stephens areas being so great for their beautiful beaches, great cafes and fun walking tracks, if there’s anything we love to do, it’s to take our furry friends with us to these areas!

So, we’ve made a list of 10 of our favourite places in the area, you can enjoy with your furry friends too!

10. Rathluba Lagoon, Rathluba - Lochend Circuit, East Maitland, New South Wales

Rathluba Lagoon is one of our favourite places in East Maitland, not only is there an off-leash dog area but there is also children’s play equipment, walking tracks and even a horse exercise yard! However, it’s always important to be aware of any warnings regarding the water to ensure your furry friend stays safe. Check out more about Rathluba Lagoon here!

9. Central Park Cafe, Maitland Visitor Centre, Maitland, New South Wales

This cafe is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee on an alfresco verandah on a Sunday morning, and better than all it welcomes dogs!

8. Bakers Brickyard Park - Morpeth Road, Raworth, New South Wales

We love Bakers Brickyard Park for letting our fur babies play! With this park offering an off-leash dog area that is fenced, it’s perfect for those fur babies that have a mischievous side!

7. Riverhouse Cafe, Raymond Terrace, New South Wales

The Riverhouse Cafe is the perfect local cafe for you and your furry friends, and being so close to us in Raymond Terrace, we make the most out of it! This cafe is perfect for people with dogs of all shapes and sizes; we’ve even seen some people bring camping chairs for their dogs to sit next to them!

6. Redhead Beach, New South Wales

The beautiful Redhead Beach is one of our favourites! With an abundance of sand area for your furry friends to run and play in the water, it is the perfect place! Always ensure you check out the signage as you enter of where you can and can’t take your dog on the beach, as some of the rules recently changed!

5. Boomerang Park, Raymond Terrace, New South Wales

Local is always best, and with this Raymond Terrace park including a dog off leash area which is located at the Freeth St entry, we love to take our dogs here for some exercise!

4. Boat Harbour, Port Stephens, New South Wales

Boat Harbour is one of the most beautiful places in the area, and with dog-friendly designated areas, it is even better! There are signs in the area which show the dog-friendly areas and with views on views, what more could you want?

3. Kiosk at Newcastle Beach, Newcastle, New South Wales

The Kiosk at Newcastle Beach is one of our favourite places to take the dogs, because we can enjoy our food while watching the waves with our furry friends! What more could you want than beautiful scenery and enjoying a delicious meal or coffee with your best friend/s?

2. Horseshoe Dog Beach

Horseshoe Dog Beach is the perfect place to let your pooches run free and play in the calm water; there is also parking nearby. The only problem is that this is Newcastle’s only dog beach so can get extremely busy, especially on weekends!

1. King Edward Park

With beautiful views of Newcastle’s coastline this is one of our most loved places to take our dogs! We love to bring the ball, and our dogs are entertained for hours! During season you might even see dolphins or migratory whales, which is always just a bonus!
